Ellen Mayer is an award-winning children's author with a background in early childhood and parent education who writes her picture books for young children and the grown-ups who read to them.Ellen has worked as an education researcher at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education and as an early literacy home visitor with her diverse local public school system. With Star Bright Books she has created the Small Talk Books® series, developed early math-infused books (supported in part by TERC and a writing fellowship under a grant from the Heising-Simons Foundation), and collaborated with South African writer Sindiwe Magona on the middle grade Books and Bricks: How a School Rebuilt the Community. Ellen lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with her husband and very large cat, delighted to have her children and grandchildren living close by.
